tcp/ip issue/question

I recently deleted a virus (belt.exe) off my machine, and
now some of my tcp/ip functionality is gone: I CAN get on
the net, get my email etc, but CAN'T ping loopback address
or my gateway... msg about 32bit tcp/ip being
misconfigured also when I try to upload pages via
Frontpage... Also can't auto update AVG Virus files or
avantgo (servers not available) please explain how this
works? I tried to re-install tcp/ip but msg comes up that
some services must be shut off? manual? disabled? (simple
tcp/ip for example) to do this...help, thanks

It sounds like that was not really the virus you had but
the New.net loaded onto your computer. There are a ton of
these internet worm programs now that load into your
system. Try doing a search for now*.* on your computer
and also look for a now.net in Add/ Remove programs. If
it is in there you do have this. It must be removed from
add / Remove or it damages the Hosts file and winsock
areas of windows. Out of curiosity you should be able if
you go to my computer and then to favorites click one of
the favorites and get in. If this sounds like your
situation and or you find any Now files on your machine
that is the issue. If you feel comfortable posting an
email I can send you a utility that can repair the
winsock, hosts issue.

I didn't find anything with now*.* search and there's
nothing in Add/Rmove Programs that looks suspicious. Tried
reinstalling tcp/ip per KB299451 instructions, still
get "transmit failed, error code 65" when trying to ping
my gateway... my private email is canon273 - at -
yahoo.com.
