Taskbar icons

Francis Hookam

My taskbar auto-hides at the side

I do not know what you call the section which includes tiny icons of running
applications - where the date/clock is

On my main computer only a few open application icons show and there are
double arrows to extend click to reveal the rest

On the laptop ALL open application icons show

1
How can I make the main computer show them all without clicking to reveal
them?

2
Can these icons be made larger - if so how?

Thank you

0. It's called the System Tray & also known as the Notification Area; it's
a little area carved out of the Taskbar.

1. Right-click anywhere on the Task Bar or in the System Tray in an empty
spot (not on an icon) to reveal a popup menu. Choose Properties to bring up
the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialogue. Remove the tick from the
box "Hide inactive icons".

2. I believe you'd have to adjust your display properties for this one but
I can't find the particular item for this. Bring up Display Properties by
right-clicking on an empty area of the Desktop and choosing Properties from
the popup menu.

The icons can be made larger using the Display properties.

Open Control Panel/Display/Appearance Tab/Advanced Button. In the Item drop
down menu, select Caption Buttons and increase the size there.

Below is the way to increase the size of all the icons in your task bar.
Note that this also increases the height of your active and inactive title
bars. The three change in unison. Since you will have such wide bars, you
might as well increase the font size of what is written in them to take
advantage of the extra space, and increase readability, see below.

Control Panel / Display / Appearance tab / Advanced button
Click the dowm arrow next to the box that says Desktop to get the list of
options. Click on "Caption Buttons" and use the up arrow to go from 18 to
30. Click the OK button, and see a previes of your change.
Now for the font. Go back to Advanced, and this time select the Active Title
Bar from the list. Click the triangle next to the 8 and select 16 for high
readability. Click the OK button. Adjust if you don't like the preview.
Then, click the Apply button. Then wait awhile - this change takes time.
Then click OK and you are done.

If you like the result, fine, but you can go back and change your new
settings or change other settngs. I found it was helpful to change the
Active Title Bar and Selected Items color to high-visibility color.

Who are you talking to ? What were the questions?

Please respond to the thread you are answering. Don't start a new

answering.

Or better yet, lurk a while and learn the ropes before posting again.

Francis referred to #1 and #2 in his post. Since the reply is to his
inquiry, this same terminology was used. Not sure why you are so upset. If
you could find the leftmost post, that would be the initial thread and in
fact the only thread. Is the logic really that hard to grasp?

It's threaded here, nobody. Don't know why you're not seeing it that way.

NobodyMan you're not keeping enough history in your newsreader. Older
messages get pushed out by newer ones and when this happens, replies
sometimes show up as "orphans" - as you've noticed.

Maybe you might like to turn down your flame thrower when you notice
problems like this and just use the warm setting instead of the toast
setting.
