Task Scheduler Services Start Error

Hi,

I am having the same problems as this post but no solution was posted.
I am running McAfee not Norton. When I try to start Task Scheduler I
receive an error 1721: Not enough resources are available to complete
this operation. When I look at the event view I receive a Service
Control Manager error with the same not enough resources available and
event id 7023. I am running W2K. Everything is updated weekly.
Yesterday I did a full virus scan with a result of nothing was found. I
cannot reply to the post below because it is too old.

http://groups.google.com/group/micr...ee3baebdcf3/f5d42491b5b0a388#f5d42491b5b0a388

Can someone help me as I am really struggling for a solution to a
problem that does not seem to be common enough for a straight answer. I
am also looking into the msds and found nothing related to my error.

Thanks!

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your response. I apologize for responding back so late. I
did try to restart in 'Safe Mode' and there were errors but are not
those because the services are unable to start due to being in safe
mode? I also tried to open my services panel to manually start windows
defender but was unable to do so due to the panel not responding after
each attempt. I am looking into the Windwos Defender problem seperately
for now. Again thank you for your response and if anyone could assist
me with this problem I would be grateful.

Try viewing the event logs from a 'Safe Mode' boot.

We've no idea till we see them.

When you view the logged events in Event Viewer (double-click them in the
right-hand pane) in the upper right corner, third button down is a copy to
clipboard, then you can paste in the body of a reply message.

Please do so for each of the different System Log events (that are a Type:
'Error' or 'Warning') since last boot so we can see all of the event detail.

Also check Device Manager for error codes and or non-starting devices.

Hi Dave,

I did check into the the device manager and saw nothing unsual. Also,
the error information I receive in log is

type: error
event id 7023

The Task Scheduler service terminated with the following error:
Not enough resources are available to complete this operation.

please let me know if you have any further thoughts. Thank you for all
your help.

My guess would be that some of the registry settings on your system
got removed or otherwise affected while removing or uninstalling
software. Do you remember any uinstall before the problem? There is a
small utility to fix this, but for XP: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html.
Will it work for Windows 2000? Hard to say, so if you try it, make
sure you do backup your data. In general, the "Not enough
resources ..." message indicates either faulty software or registry
issues. Since Task Manager is used by millions without any problems,
chances are that in your case its the registry.

Hi Dave,

The registry suggestion makes sense to me. The only problem I have
with it is that my scheduled tasks will not run such as my virus scan
automatically. I will have to dig a little deeper and see what I can
find. Thank you for all your time and help.
