Task Scheduler fails to start

Geoff

I'm getting the following error in my event log:

event id: 7023
source: Service Control Manager
The Task Scheduler service terminated with the following
error: The parameter is incorrect.

My SchedLgU.txt file contains:

4.71.2195.6920"Task Scheduler Service" 7/15/2004 8:10:45
AM ** Error **
A failure occurred during service initialization.
The specific error is:
0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect.

This occured after I moved the system behind a firewall,
which required setting a range of ports to be used for
dynamic RPC.

I've found very few articles in th KB referencing this
error; none specific to the task scheduler.

I applied the same changes to another similarly-
configured box without any problems.

Thanks for any guidance.

Hi, Jerold. Thanks for responding.

I'm using the "Local System account", with the "allow service to
interact with desktop." This setting is the default, and I didn't change it.

I've created all the jobs using the task scheduler interface. I thought
that perhaps one of the job files got corrupted, so I moved them all to
a different folder and tried restarting the service; still got the same
error.

Any other suggestions?

One other note; I also applied several recent Hotfixes, including:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-022.mspx
Vulnerability in Task Scheduler Could Allow Code Execution (841873)
Issued: July 13, 2004

I could rip it out and see if that makes a difference.

Any other suggestions?

The Hotfix 841873 stopped many peoples scheduled tasks from running.
SP2 for XP fixes this problem. NOt sure what to do with Win2k
