task manager startup processes

P

Parker

Hi folks,

I have a problem with having 2 services.exe running in task manager. One is
running for "all users" and one for just the logon user is my assumption.
Yeah I know about assumptions!! One of them is running at 99% cpu, the
other at 0% cpu. I have run AdAware,Spybot, and McAfee (all updated!) with
no negative results. No adware, worms, trojans,or viruses. SP4 is installed
with all updates. How can I get rid of the services.exe with 99% cpu usage.
Msconfig is not in in the run prompt. Where can I get rid of this service
at start up? Or is there a better way!!??

Thanks in advance!

Hi Parker,

Thanks for posting!

I suggest we may perform a test in Safe mode to see if the problem persists.

If it succeed in Safe mode, it may be related to the startup items and
non-Microsoft services. We may use the msconfig tool from Windows XP to
isolate it. Here is a download and the steps:

Disable the startup items and non-Microsoft Services:

1. Run the System Configuration Utility (msconfig.exe at Start -> Run).
2. Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the checks from each item in the
Startup Items column.
3. Click on the "Services" tab and check "Hide all Microsoft Services".
4. Uncheck all the rest non-Microsoft Services.
5. Click the Apply button.
6. Reboot your computer.
7. Try again.

If this issue is resolved at this point, repeat the process. However, add
one check back each time to the list of Startup Item column until the issue
reappears.

Hope this helps.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further concerns or
questions regarding the issue.
