Task Bar and Menu editing

This concerns the Task Bar and Menu editing in W2K Professional.

The question I have is why the Start/Settings/Task Bar and Menu editing
screen does not depict what is listed in the START/PROGRAMS list.

Thanks for any help,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

You'd probably need to ask Mr. Gates that one. He is the
Chief Software Architect. I can tell you that it is the
"properties" for the Start Menu & Taskbar. Get the same
thing right clicking the taskbar. The problem is mostly that
this entire matter of Windows is a pioneering experience. So
many people going in different directions, it has gotten a
bit out of hand. To my way of thinking the government should
have tried to help with standards, but it is much more
complex than telephones, and television. Although, if they
get involved, then the only way they know is to Tax it. I
know, it's very difficult, and very ominous.

You can find out all of the software and hardware that is on
your computer with a special program. The good thing is that
right now it is free. And there some things you can do help
it stay within reason as far as being overwhelming or just
too damn difficult to understand or learn. It makes the
experience cost too much in terms of affording a pleasurable
experience.

Sorry about the long winded explanation to a seemingly
simple question. Oh, the program is at www.belarc.com . Just
open the site, click "FREE DOWNLOAD". In the next page click
download tips and read the very brief familiarization, click
"download" and choose your desktop. And you may want to
click the new folder icon to load it into. That makes it
easy to keep up with. You can execute it from there, and
throw it away afterward or archive it your My Documents
Directory. I do mine like make a folder called "Aps" in My
Documents and put "stuff" there easy to find and burn a CD
later, and throw "stuff" away that I will not probably be
used again, or that I don't feel will help someone else like
yourself later. And the learning curve is very rewarding to
help find answers to questions like, "Why isn't a list on
the programs... ". You catch the drift.

Again, sorry about the length. I just get excited, if I can
(or think I can) help someone else. I was helped and still
am. If this helped you, maybe you can help another person
one day.

The things that show up when you go to Start/Settings/Task Bar and
Menu/Advanced are those in the current user's profile. Items in the All
Users profile also show up in Start/Programs but cannot be modified by
using the Customize Start Menu function. Does that explain the
differences you see?
