Task Assignment; Cannot open, Accept, Reject -- Summary

For some time, an associate and I have been having trouble accepting tasks
that are assigned. These tasks appear in the in-box and reading pane but
cannot be opened, accepted, or rejected. They can also not be dragged and
dropped. These tasks are just stuck in the inbox until deleted.

I have read many other posts on the board. It seems that the general
consensus is:

* This is a known issue that was apparently caused by the 1-10-2006 MS
Office Security Update. There are conflicting numbers posted to identify
that update.
* Microsoft is aware of the problem (at least now) and there is a patch that
MS has e-mailed, at least to one poster, about 12-07-2006. This patch is not
publicly available and it's status is unknown.

In troubleshooting, I have discovered the following
* The security updates appear to have been rolled-up into more recent
patches, so it is tough to figure out what to uninstall. Several of the
posts say that no longer works to fix the problem anyway.
* The e-mail for the service technician in about the patch does not work.
Mail comes back undeliverable.
* The problem effects several different computers I could test, each using a
different installation of Outlook 2003.
* Searching the MS web site yields nothing relevent.

Can anyone shed some light on this problem? This mobile workspace feature
of Outlook is one of it's key features.

Thanks in advance.

Called MS at (866) 452-4755 -- they provided the hot-fix for free. I
referenced article ID above (Article ID : 915490) that has only the Hungarian
and Japanese versions. The 3rd version is available for English, but you
must call to get it. The info on that is as follows:

WARNING: This fix is not publicly available through the Microsoft website as
it has not gone through full Microsoft regression testing. If you would like
confirmation that this fix is designed to address your specific problem, or
if you would like to confirm whether there are any special compatibility or
installation issues associated with this fix, you are encouraged to speak to
a Support Professional in Product Support Services. The package is password
protected so be sure to enter the appropriate password for each package. To
ensure the right password is provided cut and paste the password from this
mail.

Hope that helps somebody else out there. There is no information available
on the web site, or any schedule as to when this will be released to the
public.
