I had Win98SE and ran winfax.I have a DSL line with 2
numbers. I could set up distinctive ring for my fax. Now I
got a new computer with XP PRO. I can't set up distinctive
ring. From what I've read, Microsoft discontinued support
under TAPI. Although the modem I have supports it I cannot
set it up. It make my winfax practically useless. What can
be done? Does Microsoft planto rectify this oversight?

In this newsgroup, the answer you usually will get to questions
regarding WinXP and Distinctive Ring is that the only solution is to
buy a 3rd-party hardware device that connects to your phone line and
determines which hardware (modem, fax, answering machine, phone, etc)
should get which incoming call.

On the other hand, if you do a Google search for XP distinctive ring,
you will find some possible methods for using distinctive ring with XP
without the additional hardware.

You should probably try contacting winfax since winfax is not a Microsoft
product.
