Tabs all over the place..

Gordon J. Rattray

Hi there,

I'm doing a long document and I've imported text and copied and pasted into this document from other sources.

My tabs are all over the place and I'd like to set a tab for the document and the titles and intros would have their separate more inside tabs.

How can I start "fresh" and clear all the existing tabs and start with a tab to place all text against it? Or if there were no tabs would it default to the left margin?

Many thanks,

Gordon

If you mean typed tab characters, then you can do Find/Replace (Ctrl-
H) with ^t in the Find what? box and nothing at all in the Replace
with box, and click "Replace All."

If, as is more likely, you mean that you have a variety of
indentations -- maybe even first line, left margin, right margin --
and you want every paragraph to be the same, then select your entire
text (Ctrl-A) and apply a single paragraph style (with just one
click). Use (or create) a paragraph style with the precise first-line
indent and justification style that you want.

If you have headings that you want to keep as headings, then instead
of selecting the entire text, then select all the body text following
each heading and apply that basic style.
