tables and figures TOC

What should someone look out for when creating a TOC for tables and figures?
Someone at my office tried to create his regular TOC and then a second
TOC/List for Tables and Figures. He couldn't do it without eliminating his
styles for his general TOC--does that make sense?

You can make a Table of Figures based on any given style.
