System Too Slow

My system DELL 4500 with 80 HD and 1 gig ram has been extremely slow. I
recently cleaned the system from AD & SPYware. It continues to be slow. I
ran DEFRAG, but still slow. I ran AVirus from earthlink and found no issues.

Any suggestions?

What products did you use to clean the advertising and spyware? Some
of these products are mediocre at best and a few are complete frauds
that actually infect your system rather than cleaning it?

Use Start - All Programs - System Information.
Click on the + sign in front of the Software Environment category to
expand it.
Click on the Startup Programs item to select it.
A list of your startup items will appear in the right panel.
Copy and paste that list into a reply back here.

Good luck

I ran ADWARE - Lavasoft and SPYBOT to clean my system. I ran Earthlink
AntiVirus to clean my system and NO viruses were found.

AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy are both quaility products and
they do make a pretty effective combination.

I have no knowledge about Earthlink AntiVirus although I suspect it is
a licensed version from one of the major AV companies.

In any event it is helpful to get the occasional second opinion. About
once I month I like to go to one of the free online scanner sites and
let that check my system just to double check, and a couple of times
in the past few years it has actually found something that got by my
primary defenses.

Here is a list of some of the free online scanners:
Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Kaspersky Online Scanner http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan
WindowSecurity.com TrojanScan http://windowssecurity.com/trojanscan
Webroot http://www.webroot.com/

Good luck

My computer was running slow also, I ran defrag on my C: drive and then on my
F: drive which only has my music and pictures, now I cannot access the
F:drive, I see the folders there but it just sits there trying to open, if it
does open it will not open up the folders where mu music or pictures are,
also when I go into my C: drive and try to open my documents and settings it
hangs up there as well?? Help..
