System stops responding

Windows Media Player 9 was installed on my computer when I purchased it in
2003. Windows XP is the operating system. When I try to copy a CD to the
system, it will stop responding after copying one or two songs. Do I need to
update to WMP 10 or 11 and if so, what software is required for the update? I
probably also need to update the Decoder from ivivideo.ax version 4.0.11.389.

Update to either WMP 10 here :

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/10/default.aspx

or WMP11 here :

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx

Beware : some people have problems with WMP11, personnaly I never had and
find it superior to the 10 version. WMP10 is probably more stable though,
your call.

The file ivvideo.ax concerns videos not music. See here for an explanation
about errors if you don't want to upgrade :

http://www.free-codecs.com/guides/How_to_fix_divide_error_in_module_iviaudio_ax_at.htm

BTW, you are trying to rip/copy music and not video ?

Here is a great CD ripper and its free. :

You'll need to download the Lame encoder as well - scroll down and read the
installation instructions as to where to place the file.
