System shuts down suddenly

The system will suddenly shut down without any error message. I have to try to restart several times before I can even get to windows. I tried reformatting the system but it shuts down right in the middle of reformatting! Is this a very bad case of virus? What can I do to stop it from shutting down long enough for me to reformat?

It is possible that you have either
a] A virus o
b] Faulty Hard Drive Controller / Motherboard or Memor

It isn't possible to refomat the 'system' under Windows. Do you mean reinstall or do you mean formatting the hard drive

Don't do either of these before updating your anti virus software and doing a full scan of all devices attached

If the system keeps falling over, try swapping the hard disk then get your motherbaord checked out if the hard disk isn't the faulty item.

if you have formatted your harddrive it is not a virus. it is a hardware
problem. I would think your power supply is failing. is the fan on the power
supply still turning? or it could be just time to replace the power supply

this definitely sounds like either a power supply or CPU cooling issue. If
your Heatsink fan is failing or running intermittently your CPU will
automatically shut down to save the itself from burning up. Because the shut
down is sudden I would look at the heatsink fan first. My experience has
been a failing power supply will often cause the blue screen.

Greetings --

This sounds very much like your CPU or RAM modules are
overheating. I suggest that you check all of the PC's cooling fans
for proper operation and clear all of the cases airways of dust and
lint (also remove any dust from inside the case) before you do
permanent thermal damage to your computer, if you haven't already.
