System Shutdown Remote Procedure Call error

Chad

I'm am using Windows XP home edition and recently started
having problems with my HP Pavilion 760n pentium 4
processor. My first error message was at start up
SHDOCVW.dll file missing reinstalling this file may fix
the problem and allow windows to load. I tried a system
restore and thought it was fixed but then while online I
received the RPC error and my system shutdown so then I
did a System recovery and still have these errors: This
system is shutting down. Please save all work and log
off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown
was initiated by Nt Authority\System. Remote Procedure
Call service terminated unexpectedly.
Another error message is: Generic Host Process for Win32
services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience. I also cannot download
any Windows updates. My Anti-virus is updated and my
system has been scanned. Can anyone help? My warranty has
expired. Thanks Chad

Greetings --

If you connected the PC to the Internet without having first
installed the KB824146 Hotfix, without having first installed an
antivirus application with current virus definition files, and before
enabling a firewall, you're very likely to get infected from any of
the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are constantly broadcasting
the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only takes a few seconds of
exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.
