System runs low on Virtual Memory

I am running XP Home edition SP2. I get this
error "System running low on Virual Memory" The system
attempts to allocate additional but is not successful.
As a matter of fact, the system either runs at a snails
pace or locks up. I get the same result in safe mode
as well. Any Ideas ?

Likely you need more RAM, and the registry clean.

Reboot in safe mode.

Use CCleaner

Defrag your drive

Dan, if this is happening during a Microsoft Antispyware scan, I believe you
should scan using other products.

Lavasoft's Ad-aware, with their vx2 cleaner add on would be one
recommendation

Also, an online antivirus scanner of your choice.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com is one which cleans both viruses and
adware.
