System Restore

Something has happened to my system restore. I need to
restore as of last month but I can't get there. The
calendar only restores as of June 2. I am getting error
messages when I sign on : "ERROR:could not execute
Main:The system cannont find the file specified"
and "ERROR Loading c:\windows\bxxxs5dll not found." I
have done something but don't know how to undo.

Unfortunately, when System Restore goes bad, the only thing to do is
disable it, reboot to clear it out, and start over. To disable System
Restore, go to the System applet in Control Panel and click on the
System Restore tab, where you will see a checkbox to disable SR.
However, if you are having problems where you wanted to use System
Restore, that kind of leaves you up the creek. Is the error about not
finding the bxxxs5dll the reason you wanted to use System Restore? It
sounds to me like you may have a virus or spyware. Rather than trying
to use System Restore, do this:

Scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not earlier
than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) Also, remove spyware
with Spybot Search & Destroy from www.safer-networking.org and Ad-aware
from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure to update these programs before
running them. These programs are free, so run them both since they
complement each other. It is best to run antivirus and spyware removal
tools in Safe Mode. You may also need to run CWShredder from http:/
www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.html . Please read the instructions
carefully. A great resource for dealing with spyware is http:/
www.spywareinfo.com. Also, make sure you've visited Windows Update and
applied all security patches. Make sure you are running a firewall.

If you need more help, please repost. Be sure to tell us more about your
computer, the problem(s), and what you've already done to troubleshoot.
