System Restore won't open

Hi all..

When I attempt to open system restore I get a message saying that it has
encountered a problem and needs to close. I have attempted or looked at
the following and cannot get it to work.

In services it is shown as running.

It will not run in safe mode.

I've tried reinstalling it and it fails while looking for srclient.dll .
I have located this file in several different places, the i386 folder,
on the xp install cd and on the service pack to cd and I point it in
this direction. It reports that it cannot copy the file and the
reinstall fails.

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be and a possible solution.

thanks,
Newfdog

You could try rt clicking MyComputer>select Properties>System
Restore>check box Turn off System Restore on all Drives. Click Apply Ok.
Restart and reverse the procedure.

Thanks for the suggestion but when I tried this and click on the system
restore tab I get the same message that it has encountered an error and
needs to close.

Go to Start>Run type: msconfig click Ok and in General Tab click
on Expand File. You may be able to replace the
srclient.dll from there.
