System Restore Problem--- Bert??? (or anyone else)

I am having a problem with System Restore. It works fine as far as my
manually setting a restore point. It appears to do a restore properly.

BUT IT WILL NOT SET THE AUTOMATIC CHECKPOINT/RESTORE POINT.

I've perused your article and gone through most of the steps.

I haven't seen anything that is causing the problem.

I looked through the sr/srservice event viewer and didn't find any problem.

I've run my AVG virus program and Ad-Aware anti-spyware. Nothing of interest
there.

I've disabled and then enabled SR.

I've now just reduced the file space for SR info to 5% from the default of
12%. I guess I'll see if that makes a difference.

My next step might be to reinstall SR as per your article via the sr.inf
file.

Unless you have other suggestions.

One other possibility: this is on a fairly new Dell Inspiron 2200 notebook.
Generally, I don't leave it on. When it is on, I guess it isn't idle too
much as I'm generally using it -- but it is sometimes idle for 5-10 minutes
here and there. Should I try leaving it idle for awhile?? If so, is there a
specific default time that SR would kick in?? I guess I don't like to leave
my laptop running all day or night (afraid of heat build-up problems).

Any other ideas/suggestions??

Why use the auto restore,it just eats up system free-space.Try creating a
restore
point and leave it at that. Also, leave restore at default setting 12%.

Uh... yeah... as I said, I've read all that, hence my last paragraph. That
MIGHT be the problem or it might not. It's hard to say how long my laptop
remains idle.

Hi Mel,

It could very well be there is not enough idle time for autocreate to
work. Or there could be an app running in the background preventing it
also.

I would suggest using the following script to adjust the restore point
frequency from 24 hours to 18. Leave the system on, and set it to go
into Standby after a half hour. Check each day to see if autocreate is
working.
