System Restore Point Creator 1.1
Author: Malcolm Lim Boon Lian
Program Type: Freeware

File Description:

System Restore Point Creator was created to have a quick and simple
utility to create system restore points. Yes, you may argue that the
System Restore UI already has this functionality, but it does not include
the ability to create a restore point from the command line or the ability
to provide a "one click restore point creation."

By default, if you use the shortcut that was created by the System Restore
Point Creator setup program, the program will automatically create a
system restore point entitled "Daily_Restore_Point". You can however,
change this to whatever text you want, with or without spaces as well.

Without any parameters, the main interface of the System Restore Point
Creator will be launched instead, allowing you to create a system restore
point using the graphical user interface instead. You can also use this
program by scheduling a system restore point creation every x days, weeks,
etc.

Does anyone know where the Restore Point files are stored in XP?. There is a
facility to remove all RPs except the last, but I would prefer to delete
only the oldest.

They are stored in
c:\System Volume Information\_restore{the MachineGuid number for your
computer}

This folder is normally hidden by default. I think it's risky to directly
delete restore points from this folder.

A way to reduce the number of restore points that works well for me is to
go to the System Restore Wizard and click on System Restore Settings.
Move the 'Disk space usage' slider to a lower value and click Apply.
Watch the numbers as you move the slider until you get the memory value
you want. Your numbers will depend on the disk space available and the
amount of system restore info for your system and are only approximate at
that because restore points use different amounts of memory. I recommend
starting with one increment to see approximately how many points are
deleted per increment and then use that as a guide to decide the best
setting for your system.

BTW, it is the oldest points that are deleted.

I really recommend not by-passing the System Restore Wizard and directly
deleting anything in that folder.

Good Luck

control panel \ system \ system restore
Reduce the disk space alloted for restore points to remove the oldest
points. (I don't know how much space for each.)
