I have XP Pro SP2 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. System Restore is no longer
working. I cannot open the System Control Panel. System Restore takes an
hour or more to start from Start | Run |
%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\Restore\rstrui.exe, and then it does not work. I
cannot make a Restore point and cannot restore a previous point. If I try to
change restore settings nothing happens. Windows Update no longer works
because it cannot make a Restore Point before installing the updates. (I
have let Windows Update work all night long and the updates still fail.)
Software installations have also stopped working, since they get stopped
trying to make a Restore point before installation.
So I am pretty stuck.
Otherwise, my system seems to work pretty well.
Any suggestions for repairing this?
