System Restore Is Gone

Hey
Was hoping someone could help me. I have been having some problmes with
my System Restore not working. Someone helped me disable it but now when I
try to re-enable it, the entire system restore tab is gone. Is there a way to
get that back or am I totally screwed? Thx

Make sure your user has administrator privileges. If your user has admin
privileges and the System Restore tab is still gone, check if in your
registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
NT\System Restore there is a "DisableSR" DWORD value with content "1" and
delete it.

If the issue is still not resolved, there could be a problem with
Srclient.dll, the DLL which implements the System Restore tab in System
Properties. Post back and I'll send you some instructions to reinstall SR.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the response. I am the only one that uses the computer and my
profile IS set to admin. Where do I find the registry key?

You need to open Registry Editor. Click Start, Run, type "regedit" (without
the quotes), and then click OK. Browse to the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\System Restore,
look for a "DisableSR" value and delete it.

Daniel, I followed your directions, However under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT the oly available
folder is "terminal services" when I clicked into that it had only 1 binary
element that said value not set. I then went in and changed it to zero but
with no results... could you instruct me further?

Matt,

I followed your directions but regedt32.exe would not function under the run
prompt I also followed the directions that Daniel gave with just the regedit
and I was able to get to the point of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\ but instead of
having a System Restore, it only had one folder named "terminal services"
going into that I found a "default" file with an un-assigned value. I then
changed it to zero, but then there were no results. I went into it again and
it had reset itself to being non-assigned value. What should I do now?
look for a "DisableSR" value and delete it.

but it mite not be called the same and it was in the setup_last again mite
not be the same but should be in one of them

if its not let me no and Ill walk you through creating it

Matt,
The new search string you gave me was right...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\systemRestore

When I open the folder there are 14 different binary config files
(REG_DWORD) and 1 (REG_SZ)

There are a lot of numbers and Im not sure as to which ones to change...

The ones I have listed are: (* all REG_DWORD) CompressionBurst - 00000003
(60) /CreateFirstRunRp 00000001 (1) /DisableSR 00000000 (0) /DiskPercent
0000000c (12) /DSMax 00000190 (400) /DSmin 000000c8 (200) / RestoreDiskSpace
00000000 (0) / RestoreSafeMode 00000000 (0) / RestoreStatis 00000000(0)
/RPGloabalInterval 00015180 (86400) /RPLifeInterval 0076a700 (7776000)
/RPSessionInterval 00000000(0) /ThawInterval 00000384(900) /TimerInterval
00000078 (120)

Default REG_SZ (value not set)

*also under systemrestore folder are 2 sub folders (Cfg and Snapshot
Callbacks)

That is probably overkill but at least you know what I working with. Hope It
Helps!

Thx

Bert, or Matt

Im still not sure as to where to go or what to do. I dont know If you read
it or not, but I left a block of information I thought might help. If not
here is a second Idea

As I remember MSN messenger has a feature called remote assistance. If
either of you have messenger, and would be willing or able to help out, I
would gladly make arrangements with you for that.

Thanks!

yer thats the right one if you doubleclick the DisableSR it will come up
with a box saying:

Value Name:
Disable SR

Value Data: base
0 hexadecimal
decimal

make sure the hexadecimal is checked on the check box
then click the value data box and change the value from 0 to 1
