System freezes during XP Pro setup.

As a home user/hobbyist I have set up XP Pro a couple of times now and noted
a tendency for the system to hang when setup reaches estimated 34 mins to go.
In the past, repeated use of the reset button or restarting install from
scratch has eventually persuaded it past this point and completed
successfully. However I can't get a repair installation I am presently
attempting to get through this glitch at 34 mins. to go. Has anyone else
encountered this? Is it a known issue or do I just have dodgy hardware.

Many thanks Carey. Will look into this when I get back from work up country
and let you know how I get on.

Using information from kb 828267 I was able to view the setupapi.log file
which led me to believe the USB 2.0 host controller card was causing the
problem. This was indeed the case as with the card removed the installation
completed successfully. With the card replaced, Windows automatically
reinstalled original manufacturers drivers on next startup with no problems.
Thanks once again Carey, I must learn to search the knowledge base more
thoroughly as I missed this one!
