System Explorers Missing

David Lann

I have been using MAS on a number of machines (28) and
found it very usefull to prevent and remove problems. I
have now installed it on a laptop running W2000 with all
patches. Everything seems to work but when I try to bring
up System Explorers there is nothing. I have
uninstalled. Removed related reg keys left. Run Norton.
RE-boot. Installed and updated and the same issue. I use
this machine when I am away from the office and there are
many programs installed on it. Any suggestions?

It is Norton that does this damage. To fix it again, exit MSAS, open a
command prompt window, and type the command:

regsvr32 msvbvm60.dll

then re-launch MSAS. In extreme cases, you might have to restart Windows.

Robin,

Thank you that worked. I had checked the application
compatibility area before posting and found nothing,
thinking that Norton would be a common issue. Thanks
again.

Hi Robin,

I've noticed that you have referenced Norton several times in these groups as being the cause of this issue. Can you be a little
more explicit as to what Norton product you believe is causing this.

I've got Norton System Works 2004 on one machine, and Norton Antivirus 2002 on another. I've installed this MSAS Beta several times
on both machines since it's release and I've yet to have the VBRuntime file Unregistered as the result of an install. Given this
fact I'm assuming it is a certain Norton product that you are referring to that you have yet to disclose?

This issue seems to arise with install or upgrade of some Norton products--I
don't have a list, after Microsoft Antispyware is installed. I am not sure
I have a perfect repro of all possible causes of this, but having a Norton
product installed is something that nearly all who see this symptom
evidence.

This is a rather minor app compatibility issue--not a big deal
really--easily fixed, and I don't expect it to happen with beta2.
