System Event Warning: EventID 2021

John Keiser

Odd irritation.
Whenever my wife's computer is on and connected to our home network [which
otherwise functions fine - all under WindowsXP], every 30 minutes my PC's
Event Viewer displays a new warning: EventID 2021 "The server was unable to
allocate a work item X times in the last 60 seconds."
After Googling a bit, I've added and increased the value of "MaxWorkItems"
in the registry.
Any other sugestions?
Thank you.

Try increasing the number of system pages for the server in the registry.

1. Open a registry editor.
2. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\Memory Management, select SystemPages.
3. From the Edit menu, select DWORD.
4. For Data, enter 10000.
5. Click OK and exit the registry editor.
6. Shut down and restart Windows 2000.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error
Report. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Changing "System Pages" from "110592" to "10000" did not help.
I have aleady read the Google articles - which primarily seemed to suggest
tweaking MaxWorkItems"
Other thoughts welcomed.
Thank you.

FYI:
Decreasing Lanmanserver/parameters/IRPStackSize from 35 to 15 seems to have
done the trick.
