System clock anomaly

Clock was 4 minutes slow this A.M. A few months ago, clock was more than
the limit set for corrrecting time by an atomic clock program (D4), 2
hours. Does this kind of thing just happen, oddly, unpredictably, signifying
nothing, or is it an omen? Asus based puter, less than 2 years old. Thanks
for suggestions,

Sounds like it might be a good idea to replace
the
motherboard battery.

Agreed; date/time anamolies are usually a sign of
the battery teetering on the edge of not
working/working.
In the extreme, letting it go too long (say a
few weeks) can (not will), when the battery
finally gasps its last breath, cause BIOS settings
to become corrupt and the machine to not be able
to boot unless/until the battery is replaced & the
the BIOS settings redefaulted or reset manually.

Four minutes is more of an error than is common, but it's not
enormous. Two hours, on the other hand, is really a lot.

When you say "two hours," do you mean *exactly two hours, or
approximately two hours? If it's approximately two hours, I would
suspect that your motherboard battery is starting to fail. But if it
was exactly two hours, it's not the battery, but something else is
wrong.

Max correction allowed to be made was set at 1 hour, so the correction made
when I overrode the setting was some odd number, I think well over 60 x 2
hours. So I guess it's high "time" to replace.
Thanks all for your inputs.
