System Cache Too Big - 219/512 MB. Help!

Hi. First of all, I need to know if a 219 MB System Cache, twice the size of
available memory, is normal. You could check your own values in Task Manager.

Then, I need to know how to set the System Cache to something a little less,
if possible. There are settings in
HKLM/...CurrentControlSet/Control/...Memory Management/size, but I don't dare
to touch the cache size and number of pages.

Memory Management is set to Programs in Windows.

Thanks a lot for comments.

No, it isn't too big. Best to let windows manage this for you. Don't edit
the registry. Control Panel|System|Advanced|Performance|Advanced|Virtual
Memory|System managed size

My system cache is 1.1 gig at the moment and is of no concern to me. (-:

I prefer 2.5*memory minimum but it really depends on how much actual
memory you have vs. the apps that you typically run. If you have, say
2GB memory, you may not need swap at all.

This comp has an entire partition 5x the memory installed. I did it to
prevent fragmentation and to minimize disk head movement. 3+ years later
I am satisfied that I am getting the most out of this P4 2.4. It turns
out that its also handy if you multi-boot as all modern Windows OS's can
use the same partition for swap space. And any way I have way more disk
space than I need - LOL.

Bottom line ... don't worry about it, let Windows manage it as it sees fit.

The gentleman is talking about the "system cache", not the swapfile. Two
entirely different things.

Thanks very much to everyone who replied.

I uninstalled SQL Server Express in hopes that it might reset some related
setting, and I don't use it anyway, but it didn't seem to change anything.
The system cache seems to be slightly smaller now, though, and I'm seeing it
change size in Task Manager.

So I'll take your advice and stop worrying about it.

Thanks,
Steve
