System Audio

Okay, I'm having a problem with my system audio. Even if I put earphones into
the earphone jack, the sound can still be heard from the speakers. That's
just plain weird. Has anybody else experienced that? I thought that there
might be a place to control the speaker audio and yet still have earphone
audio, but I don't know where that might be. Can anyone help?

It would depend on what 'earphone jack' you are using.

You may have an available plug on your sound card called 'line out', this has
a separate volume slider available. Put the headphones jack in it.

start/run, type sndvol32, Options menu, run down scrolling list of sound
devices and put a checkmark in 'line out', then OK. This should give you a
dialog with sliders for both speaker, and line out (even a mute checkbox for
the speakers that would not mute the line out.)

Check your settings at Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices
