Sysprep and desktop icons

I see that sysprep by default removes default and custom desktop icons and
shortcuts. I like that since IE, MSN Explorer, and Microsoft Windows Media
Player are removed but I do need to have a few icons of my own.

Is there an eloquent way for me to set a few custom icons for the default
user’s desktop?

The only way I can think of is to put something in runonce. I tried to run
a post sysprep command but it did not appear to have an effect.

Thanks

You can place the shortcuts in the Desktop folders under the Default User
and/or All Users profile before running sysprep. You'll need to tell Explorer
to show hidden files so you can see these profile folders.

Sysprep cleans out the default user\desktop folder which is where I want my
icons placed. All users\desktop was a consideration but I want users to be
able to delete the icons if they want.

Sysprep doesn't clean out my Default User Icons. I set up the Default User
profile to have specific icons on the desktop in my images. I always set up
the desktop of the images to Classic View and Classic Theme and everything
shows up on the desktop for any user who logs in.

I always use classic view. I wonder if the Windows XP view is what makes
your icons disappear. Now I'm curious. I will have to set up an image both
ways and see what happens.

I'm using XP view and my Default User desktop icons stick. That's odd that
your don't.

It's not as pretty but you could use logon scripts to copy the shortcuts. Or
give the user a shortcut to a batch file that copies the shortcuts on demand?
