Sys. vol. info folder-access denied

S

Sirius

Windows XP, Home, NTFS.
Tried - cacls "driveletter:\System Volume Information" /E /G username:F
Got message: No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.

I do not know what else to do after that,so any help would be great. I need
the access to yank a virus manually.

The system volume folder is protected by the system and cannot be accessed
to remove bits and pieces like you want to (and even if you could, most
likely you would corrupt the files and your restore points would become
useless anyway). If you have a virus in this folder and the rest of your
system is clean just turn off system restore, reboot and turn it back on
again.

Sirius,

Please don't call the folder SysVol as this is the directory used for logon
scrispts for servers & is a completely different directory...

I did not call it that, Microsoft did, I just abbreviated it so it would
fit in the subject line. I used the periods.

System Volume Information = Sys. Vol. Info.

Sorry about the confusion.

Yes, Kelly, this is what I did and it's not working.
I get the message:

"""""""""""No mapping between account names and security IDs was
done.""""""""""""""""

Thank you.

Hi,

From a previous post:

For anyone else out there struggling with this one...

No mapping between account names and security IDs was done ...

The answer to my prob was found (eventually) on the Microsoft Search site.
It is to a) display the Security Tab in the properties page for folders on
the XP machine by unchecking the 'Simple Folder Sharing' in Folder Options
in the Control Panel and b) to set the Folder properties/security tab for
the folder to which you are backing up (on the XP machine) to 'Full
Control'. Then it all works as it should. Easy when you know how!
