Switch to desktop using flip 3d... wheres the sidebar?

J

Just FYI

I didn't notice until you mentioned it, but I get the same thing. Seems this
one belongs on a bug list.

Ok, Has anyone noticed that when you use flip 3d to get back to your desktop
the sidebar disappears??!
You can easily get it back by opening a window then closing it again. Why is
this?? Surely sidebar is part of my desktop so why does it not display when i
chose to switch to my desktop in this way??

Any ideas and does anyone else have this problem??

Thanks

For me depends on if 'always on top is selected'
(vista home premium)

If not selected then works fine

If is selected then flip-3d -> desktop I lose the sidebar and the taskbar at
the bottom.

If I then use mouse wheel click to slect desktop again then taskbar comes on
and the sidebar comes back but with the clock fussed out. Clicking on the
clock in the sidebar gets things back again.

Very strange.
(I normally do not have 'always on top selected' so haven't noticed this
before.

because its not a window.. if it was treated like a window then you would be
able to flip that too
and that would create havoc...

seems that vista was not that well thought out... Noooooooooo you suppose???
LOL

I dont quite understand your response. You can switch to the desktop using
flip 3d, so i guess it is treated as a window. The sidebar is part of the
desktop yes? But that is not present when you use flip 3d to switch to the
desktop.

While conceptually, the Sidebar and its gadgets are "part of the desktop",
it is treated as just another app by the window manager and therefore the
gadgets get hidden along with the other windows when you Flip to the
desktop. I'd prefer they stay visible as this would be a) more consistent
with the idea of detached gadget being "on the desktop", and b) would allow
switching to such gadgets like one switches to the dashboard in Mac OS X.
This should of course also apply to alt-tabbing and the show desktop
shortcut.
