svchost.exe uses 100% of the CPU

For the last month or so now the svchost.exe has been using 100% of my CPU
when I am using the wireless. When I end it, the wireless zero
configuration service shutsdown as well. Anyone seeing this and know of any
solutions?

There are any number of applications that use svchost.exe.

Download Process Explorer.

For further information about Process Explorer see here:

To ascertain which service is causing the problem select the svchost
producing the high CPU usage, right click,
select Properties, Services. Note there are the full names and
some explanation of what each service does.


You will find further information on Services here:

To trace the particular Service involved you need to turn off each
service in turn and then restore it noting what effect it has on CPU
usage. However, you need to take care and watch what other Services are
dependent on that service. When you click on the Dependencies tab allow
it a little time to display the information.

I did find which service it is, it is the Wireless Zero Configuration. When
this service is turned off everything is fine. When when the service is
turned back on the CPU maxes out.

Could it be a problematic driver needing updating?

Otherwise you might try:
microsoft.public.windows.networking.wireless

Hi guys. If your symptoms are the same as mine, the solution is here:

My symptoms:
on first login, the svchost.exe hosting the wireless zero configuration
service would go to 100% for about 5 minutes. I would also be kicked off my
wireless network. If you leave the PC for 5 minutes, svchost calms down
again and wireless connectivity is restored. Eventually I realised that this
was only happening when Microsoft issues a new Windows Update.

This was happening on my Sony Vaio, and Aaron's fix (above), sorted it out.
