svchost.exe error

I get the following error message:

"svchost.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows. An error log has been created".

This seems to occur at random.

I have reas the knowlwedge base article that deals with
this error. It refers to the error occurring on Novel
Networks. I am not on a novel network. I do have a dial
up modem. I do not know if this somehow relates - but for
some reason I cannot seem to set up the modem not to boot
the computer when the phone line is activated by an
incoming call.

Can anyone help me with htis problem.

(http://housecall.antivirus.com ) and perform an online scan of your platform then report
back your results.

Asked and answered daily. Check existing posts that have
svchost in the Subject line.

Ralph,
I am getting the same error using a dial up modem with a
Dell Latitude Cpx laptop. Don't use Novel Networks so fix
listed does not apply. Hope someone can solve this problem.

I used Mcafee on line as you suggested. (I do have Mcafee
installed on my machine) No Virusus were found.

After you have checked the countless posts on
"svchost" errors, scan your PC with an external
virus scanner, e.g. on www.antivirus.com ("free
online scan").
