Surf SideKick Spyware

My computer has somehow become infected with Surf SideKick spyware. I have
the Microsoft Antispyware program loaded and set to automatically scan
everyday.

The first a scan detected the Surf Sidekick spyware, the following message
appeared:

Detected Threats

SurfSideKick Settings Modifier more information...
Details: SurfSideKick downloads and displays advertisements
Status: Removed
High threat - High-risk items have a large potential for harm, such as loss
of computer control, and should be removed unless knowingly installed.

Infected registry keys/values detected
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
AppInit_DLLs repairs.dll

When Surf SideKick was first detected and reported by the antispyware
program I selected the "Remove" option and the program reported that Surf
Sidekick was removed. However, each time Microsoft's Antispyware program
performs a scan, Surf Sidekick is again detected.

Can anyone suggest a procedure for permanently this spyware from my computer.

Thanks,

Weyde

Weyde,

The problem with the newer version of SurfSideKick is that they are using
the AppInit_Dlls (repairs.dll) to watch that key and regenerate SurfSideKick
if it is deleted, renamed or altered. The reason that the Microsoft
AntiSpyware cannot remove the item is that the AppInit_Dlls key loads
anything that uses the USER32.DLL in windows, which is loaded by CSRSS,
WINLOGON, etc. and loads LONG before there is a chance to delete it using
conventional anti-spyware methods.

SuperAdBlocker.com has just released and update today to Super Ad Blocker
which includes the SuperAnitSpyware scanner that will detect, delete and
remove this pest permanently.

You can install and scan for free and then remove the product if you do not
chose to purchase it. Super Ad Blocker features a 15-day fully functional
trial period. We of course appreciate it when users purchase our products,
as we do put in thousands of hours of development into creating and
maintaining our products. We update our spyware definitions daily to keep up
with the latest threats.

If you, or any members of this group are interested in purchasing, we do
offer the MSGROUPS coupon for a 20% instant discount on purchases.

Either way, give Super Ad Blocker a try to rid your system of SurfSideKick.
I would be interested to know if it solves the problem for you.

Nick:

Thanks for the advice. Will the SuperAd Blocker application co-exist with
Microsoft's AntiSpyware application or will the Microsoft AntiSpyware have to
be removed first.

Weyde,

Super Ad Blocker will co-exist with no problems. The Microsoft product may
alert you that we are "adding a brower helper object", or "statup entry",
but those are just part of our product.

Here is a link to some online reviews by Download.com/CNET so you can be
assured our software is not some kind of trojan, etc. Super Ad Blocker has
been out almost 2 years now.
