Superantispyware?!

Suanne Lippman

My laptop running WXPHome pretty much died. McAfee was turned off and
wouldn't do anything.
After running in safe mode Spybot and Ad-Aware, each of which found dozens
of problems, I was able to run McAfee, which found dozens more.
I thought I was okay, but when I rebooted in normal mode McAfee said it
detected !update-4395, but couldn't do anything about it.
I repeated everything, but found no problems. On reboot it still found
!update-4395.
Someone on the internet said that Superantispyware removed !update-4395 from
their computer. PC Magazine said Superantispyware was pretty worthless, but
real, so I gave it a try.
It found 145 problems. On reboot McAfee didn't detect !update-4395, so it
apparently worked.

It detected 145 problems that McAfee, Spybot, and Ad-Aware missed; and
cleaned up !update-4395 that McAfee couldn't. Doesn't sound worthless to
me; sounds like a miracle.

I am confused about all this. Can anyone explain to me what is going on
here? Thanks.

(shame on me, I got the product name wrong in my previous post; sorry.)

Evidently, the maker of SuperAntiSpyware didn't advertise in PC Magazine :)

It's not a miracle, just a bloody good product.

Publications like PC Magazine survive on advertising dollars - They publish
biased reports.

I am sure Nick will forgive you :)

Anti-spyware programs don't detect all problems equally well. That's why
it's a good idea to use more then one. I don't use SuperAntispyware so I
don't have a general opinion, but apparently it was just what you needed for
the specific problem you were having.

I used a trial of SuperAdBlocker for thirty days, then purchased three
copies, it worked so well. (SuperAdBlocker blocks all pop-up and banner ads
on Internet sites, so evaluating it is easy.) The purchased version comes
with SuperAntispyware. (I haven't had an infestation of meaningful malware
in more than 15 years, so I can't really judge SuperAntispyware from
personal experiece. But the fact that SuperAdBlocker (which is demonstrably
very good) includes SuperAnitSpyware speaks well for the later. I am glad
to have that impression supported by your experience. Thanks for posting.

PC Magazine's evaluation was very flawed. There is a very long thread on
this very topic at Wilder's Security Forum. PC Mag's testing was more HIPS
related than antispyware related, so the results were not realistic nor
fair to SAS. I regularly clean peoples' infected computers, and
Superantispyware has saved me hours in what used to be manual removal of
malware. It is a top-knotch product, as your own experience has proven.
