This sounds like a serious matter if you havent installed
it yourself, its widely available and costs about $20 but
i cannot think of any genuine reasons to have it,And the
problem is where did you get it and who has access to
your pc,The problems this could cause you are huge and i
would advise backing up your files and formatting unless
you know where this came from,Can you say what other anti
spy program found this. The implications of screen
captures and keylogging is very serious especially if you
have used banking sites or have used credit cards to
purchase goods of the net.Ive never heard of this before
but it sounds like a nightmare to remove and like i say
if you didnt install it and dont know where its come from
then it could be a problem if you do not format plus
change all your passwords when its clean.

Win-Spy Software is an invisible key recorder and screen-
capture utility that secretly captures anything the user
sees or types on the keyboard. Win-Spy operates in
stealth mode. Users will not be aware of its existence. A
special hot key and login is necessary to invoke the
program. Users are unable to terminate or uninstall the
program. Win-Spy comes with a screen-capture utility with
idle detect, a key recorder, an auto e-mailer, a keyword
alerter by e-mail, a folder hider, monitoring across
networks, a clear tracks utility (Windows/Internet), an
archive utility, a Remote installer, Remote PC Monitor,
PC tracking, a Webcam via Internet, secure file deletion,
and seek and eliminate anti-spyware.

features Remote Install, Remote Screen Capture, Remote
Keylogger, Remote PC Browser, Time on Net Report, Web
sites Visited Reports, and Immune to Anti-Spyware.

Do you need to know what your child is doing on the
computer? Is your spouse cheating on you? Do you need to
monitor what your employees are doing during work hours?
Is someone tampering with your computer while you are
away?

With WinSpy Software you will know exactly what they are
doing.

WinSpy is a Complete Stealth Monitoring Software that
can both monitor your Local PC and Remote PC. WinSpy
Software also includes Remote Install. WinSpy Software
will capture anything the user sees or types on the
keyboard. Users will be unaware of its existence. A
special hotkey is used to login and access Win Spy
Software. Users are unable to terminate WinSpy. Users are
unable to uninstall WinSpy.

Thats the spec's for it so have you got a suspicious wife
or parents or things like that if the answer is no then
someone is well and truly spying on your everymove on the
net,And it doesnt appear you can stop it without a
complete format of the partition and a fresh install of
Windows.

If this detection is correct, I agree with Andy Manchesta--you need to do
something about this.

Additionally, Microsoft Antispyware should have detected this, I believe.

The fact that it did not gives me some pause--can you say more about the
product which DID detect this? Is it one which is given to false positives?
What exact object or objects does it specifiy that it is detecting as this
threat?

Here's another reference to this critter--it appears to have a large number
of (potential?) processes and executables. See how this list compares to
what was detected on your machine.

Well, this program is only a "threat" to a PC itselt, it
does not send something
to another server or PC.

Used on a public PC this might be a treath.

We have a lot of these "paranoia" program for spying on our
childs, wifes, husbands etc.

A search for "parental control" gives this at Download.com

These programs really stinks but I can understand that MS
finds it rather difficult to classifie them.

Maybe its better to remove them and advice users to go to
family therapy.........

One more thing, I can understand a need for protecting
children and
blockinglists for some dirty sites but not to monitor them.

So these advices are better to follow.

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/children/default.mspx

So MS maybe can classify them for "Investigation"........

Hi Plun I think if he is on a network then it would send
the info to another pc on the network if thats who
installed it also if someone has remote access to his pc
without him realising it would also send them the info if
they installed it,Its hard to comment more though without
knowing what setup he has and if someone else is using
his pc and may of installed it without him realising.I
agree with you about parental controls but there's alot
of easier ways to do this than using a spy program so
thats what made me believe its for malicious intent but i
could be wrong on that,Hopefully he will reply with more
info to make it abit clearer.

Thanks to Bill as well for the link to counterspy It
seems a good program and i will give it a test with it
being on a 15 day free trial and see how it compares to
my other protection software.

Have a nice night guys

In the name of "parental control" we have several programs
invented by the Devil himself.

I will not mention any more program but to only go through
my link
you will se several of them. One program streams video to
another
PC without you can see it. This program is detected in several
antivirusprograms.

Nevertheless I think its important to "clean up" in this
so called "parental control" spying mess.

It stinks........

Counterspy is another Giant offshoot. I'm not sure whether it can coexist
with Microsoft Antispyware on a machine or whether there would be conflicts.
I picked that article intentionally, because the database upon which
detections are based is probably similar.

I wish (and hope!) that Microsoft will be able to publish this kind of
information at some point.

I agree with you about the issue--not a good way to be a good parent.

Even if this app doesn't move the data logged, it could easily be one
component of a system which did so. Thanks for bringing up the nature of
this application--it isn't something I've thought much about. I'm not real
thrilled with the prospect of bringing this kind of information to light in
a family situation--but I'm glad it is detected--and those who have
installed it will have to live with the consequences.
