Sudden Shut-down and restart

Lisa

Last week I received notification that the latest update
was available for downloading. I do not know which
update it was but recall that it was a security patch. I
downloaded and installed the update and a couple hours
later my computer began suddenly shutting down and
restarting. The periods of time between starting up and
the sudden shutdown get shorter and shorter (ie. machine
up and running for a couple hours and machine then shuts
down and restarts; then it will go for 15 minutes, shut
down and restart. This continues to the point that the
computer is shutting down and restarting before fully
restarting and eventually simply stops restarting. This
is a new computer (October). We were experiencing these
problems before Christmas and had the computer sent for
repairs. There was some spyware but other than that, no
major problems. Computer seemed to be working fine. I
got it back a week ago, it ran fine for four days and the
problem did not start until after downloading the latest
update. I think the problem is the update. Is anyone
else having this problem? Does anyone know of a
solution? HELP Please.

Probably nothing to do with the Windows update.
Decreasing periods of time between reboots could indicate a dead cpu fan,
and even sometimes some other dead fan, get it checked.

....or bad psu, or bad memory, or bad cpu, or bad mainboard....
....if it's relatively new, take it back to the shop !!

How did you get the notification?? If by email, it is bogus as MS NEVER
sends emails about updates. You probably have a virus or spyware program
installed, use Ad-Aware, Spybot and scan your system.
