Sub Document Folder

It seems when I install Software, 90% of the time the Program is adding a
Folder to the Documents folder. I thought the folders were suppose to be
stored under the Applications Data folder? Is there a way to keep programs
from creating new folder within the Documents folder, and redirect them to
the App Data Folder?

When you install a program you can choose the folder you would like to
install it to.

Is the program actually being installed to Documents? Sometimes during the
installation a folder may be added to Documents, often empty initially, that
may be used. They may be used to store settings, layouts, video, etc that
you create or save when using the application. Of course, you will also
fine the application.exe and numerous other folders and files in Program
Files.

No, sorry I should have explained a little more, The program is not being
installed to the Documents Folder. And Just as you mentioned it is adding a
Folder, Empty at first. Is there anyway to keep this from happening? I write
a lot of papers, and save alot of text files, that I feel are more
appropriate in a "Documents" folder then an empty folder or a folder storing
settings. anyway to revert this to store those files in App Data?

OK, now I see what you mean. This isn't a Vista issue per se but rather
is coming from the individual programs' installation routines. There are
many programs that are hard-coded to create and use a data folder in the
user's home directory. Examples are iTunes creating the iTunes folder,
VMPlayer creating the Virtual Machines folder, and Corel creating the
Corel user's folder.

The only way to control this is after the fact from within the
individual programs. Look to see if the program has a default save
location and move it to where you want. Or if there are no save
preferences in the program, just move the folder to where you want and
"Save As" the first time.
