Stuttery desktop, completely freezes randomly

Whenever i am not running a program that takes up face time on my dell
inspiron 531, my desktop has a sort of laggy/chunkyness to it, but not so
extreme that it makes using the desktop impossible. But, if i run music
through winamp, or sometimes firefox will stop it, or in the newest case,
turning on Aero, it stops. I have had this problems for as long as i can
remember, possibly appeared around december or november. Got my comp in
august, i think.

I have:
-run check disc, defragged every day(especially after moving files),
searched all over google, updated all drivers, updated vista, bought a new
power supply, am going to add another gig of ram(have 2), run memtest86,
regularly use the following: (Ccleaner, spybot search and destroy, ad-aware
free, a-squared free, AVG free, windows defender, regsupreme pro,
registryboost 2), i have eliminated every service and startup program in
nearly every fashion possible, and can verify every single bit of hardware is
running perfectly, leading me to believe it is rooted in software, likely a
microsoft error.

But, the freezing decreased for a 2 day break when i updated to newer
drivers, so maybe my up coming change from a 8600gt to a 8800gt will help.

Also, event viewer says nothing is wrong (as the computer freezes before the
error can be discovered) and i'm not sure if my stuttery desktop and random
computer freezes are linked, but i'm willing to be they are.

Hi blitzxgene,

According to your post, you have had your machine since August and the
problem appeared in November/December. I notice that you run a number of
so-called registry cleaners, viz Ccleaner, regsupreme pro and registryboost
2. When did you install and start using these programs? I suspect that it
would be around November/December. These so-called cleaners can actually
cause more problems for your system than they actually solve (if any). You
state that the problem was reduced for a couple of days after you had updated
some drivers. Presumably, updating the drivers rewrote data in the registry
that was subsequently deleted when you ran the so-called cleaners again. My
advice to you is to NEVER use this type of program. Superfluous entries in
the registry are merely ignored.

Thanks Dwarf, but i installed every single one of said cleaners AFTER the
problem appeared. Every single cleaner has also kept my computer just as fast
as the day i bought it, if not faster, with the exception of my freeze error
and stuttery desktop. Everyone of the programs is also vista certified, but i
could try uninstalling anyway.

I did run sfc /scannow after seeing a request made in this forum in another
topic. It says it found corrupted data that it attempted, but could not fix.
The journal it created was too confusing to attempt to make sense of it.

I re-ran the sc /scannow and went to the end figuring any problems would be
listed there. According to /scannow, my tcpmon.ini and source file(related to
how microsoft views my printer) is corrupted and so is the source file. It
was the only error, but that would be awesome if that was all that was
causing me to want pull out hairs.

Yes, and i already tried to do a repair, but it did not detect any problem.

Consider this: Whenever a new error condition appears on your computer, it
is almost certain that there was some change to the computer soon before the
problem began.
