IE freezes my computer randomly

Problem: My computer will freeze randomly if an internet window is open. It
never occurs if no internet window is open. It might happen while surfing
(after a couple of minutes or after several hours) or when the computer is
idle (and has been for hours). It can even happen when no other software is
running. Everything freezes, nothing is responding (mouse, keyboard ...) and
no error message. Only thing to do is a re-boot, after which everything works
again - at least for a while ...

My computer is a one year old Dell XPS gen 3 with 1 GB of ram, XP Home + SP2
and IE 6.
I have updated all the drivers and BIOS I could find from Dell.
I have run 2 different anti-spyware programs and I run a virus scan every
night.
I am behind a router with firewall.
I have a fixed IP from my ISP.
I can't find any entries in the Event Viewer that matches the time of
freezing.
I have even tried vacuum cleaning the machine.

I'm hoping someone out there can give me a clue to what is wrong with my
computer!
