studdering music

I have 160GB Harddrive with windows 2000 as the operating
system. My dxdiag is updated to the newest version and my
mp3s on mediaplayer, winamp, and musicmatch studder. I
can't even reduce the sound accelerator. It doesn't
change the problem. Is my music card going bad? I don't
even have any windows open while playing the music and it
still does it! What can I do?
Thanks! NLL

I used to have problems with stuttering sound, under
Windows 3.1. The problem lay in an IRQ conflict. If you
have a legacy ISA card this is especially likely; none of
the SoundBlaster cards will work with any IRQ other than
5! --but Windows IRQ steering might try to give it another
IRQ at bootup. You may have to go into the BIOS setup and
assign a fixed IRQ to the slot in which you have your
sound card.
