strange problem

Hi,

Before I go to Symantec, I thought I try here first. Just
recently I have had some problems with my W2K system. The
system is:
P3 1Ghz, 1.256 GB RAM, 80GB,120GB,120GB HDD`s, ASUS 5900
video card, SB Live sound card.

I have NSW 2004, AV is updated, have Spybot S&D,
SpyBlaster, SpyGuard, PestPatrol and GuardBar installed.
The system has a daily schedule scan with AV, Spybot and
Pestpatrol. I run random online scans from Trendmicro
website. I also have schedule system checks from Nortons
Utilities as well. The computer runs 24/7 and in a
network via Router with builtin firewall

Yesterday while at work, my system crashed, after doing
several reboots and cold reboots, was finally able to log
on. In my NAV, the email scanning was disabled and can no
longer be enabled. I checked event logs and nothing seems
amiss there. I tried to run some programs, but after a
little bit the system locked up, no BSOD. When I tried to
do complete DiskDocter scan to be done during booting, it
would get part way done, then BSOD. If I abort the
checkdisk to log on, no BSOD.

I haven`t had time to truly look at NAV yet, but feel that
I will probably have to unistall it and reinstall it to re-
enable email protection. I don`t beleive its
spyware/malware, especially since it would have to get
through 5 different programs. Also the fact, prior to
this problem, haven`t visited any websites. My ISP also
provides email virus scanning, so have double protection
there.

I am compute network Admin/tech/designer, have MCSE for
W2K. Just I haven`t had this kind of problem before.
Thank you.

Jeff

Its probably caused by driver/software conflict though a hd problem can give
same systems.
Unless it occurs regularly can be allmost impossible to identify, assuming
no failing hw.
Symantec will as you say probably require an uninstall/reinstall.
If you are running spyware apps, by schedule, I hope no automatic delete is
in place.
Personally I run these only a couple of times a month, they rarely report
anything other than tracking cookies.
