Strange Printing problem

G

Greg Eshleman

Boss has Windows 2000
Everything fine till last week
HP laserjet 2300l on another computer (Network)
Can print fine from all applications

However, when attempting to print from IE 6sp1 you get
4 protection faults and the an error that states you must
install a printer, even though the add printer window also
comes up with the printer clearly defined as default

I have repaired internet explorer and reinstalled it.

I searched HP and MS site knowledge base but unable to
find anything remotly close.

I have removed the printer several times and reinstalled

There are several other computers sharing the printer, all are fine

I installed a different networked printer, (Xerox copier) and it works fine

I am out of ideas...PS Did virus scan, ad-aware, spy-bot, etc.....

Post the complete errors, not just those excerpts:

e.g., "AAAAA caused a [general protection fault] in BBBBB at 0x78010497"

I came in, re-booted, and here are the exact steps taken

Open a web page with text, highlight some text, right click / print
the first error:
1) Function Address 0x4f4c9f9 caused a protection fault (Exception code
0xc0000005)
Some or all property page(s) may not be displayed.
Click "OK"
2) Function Address 0x4f4be743 caused a protection fault (Exception code
0xc0000005)
Some or all property page(s) may not be displayed.
Click "OK"
3) Function Address 0x4f4c4953 caused a protection fault (Exception code
0xc0000005)
Some or all property page(s) may not be displayed.

After clicking "OK" the Windows Printer Box Comes up with "Add Printer" and
showing the
two printers installed with the HPLJ2300L checked as default. Also, in front
of that the following
message box opens (Before you can print, you need to install a printer-)
After I close this the send/Do not send to microsoft error reporting comes
up.

PA Bear,

Thanks for the help, but it ended up being the corrupt driver in the
registry, thanks to instructions I found
elsewhere I was able to remove it, reinstall the drivers and it is no back
to working

Care to fill us in on what you found and the fix? We've been seeing a
sudden spate of these problems and perhaps the info you provide may help
others.
