Strange Permissions

I noticed that many of my folders on my PC has strange numeric permissions
like:
S-1-5-21-XXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXXX-XXXX
I don't have any users or groups by this name on my PC and I don't use any
networks.

It says that the permissions are been inhereted from the parent folder (E:\
for example). But when I look at the permissions in E:\ I can't see that user.

How can I remove it?
Should I remove it?

Thanks.

That's the SID ID for a user. Windows is having trouble looking up the user
name connected with that SID. Perhaps it is a user that you have since
deleted? Or a user from an alternate or previously installed version of
Windows?

I don't think I'd worry too much about this. I doubt it is a security
problem. You can find additional information and other recommendations and
explanations here:

Thanks, However,
1. I didn't have any previous installed version of windows, it was a clean
setup.
2. I never deleted any user from windows. I'm using the same user that I
made during the install.

Is it possible that it has something in common with Norton Protect in Recycle?
I have same type of folders there?

Thanks.

These are security IDs. Usernames are merely aliases for such things. In
addition, there are some IDs which are not associated with any user.

You will find a description of security IDs in:

"Microsoft Windows Registry Guide" by Jerry Honeycutt

on pages 8-11.

S-1-5-21 is the start of domain IDs. Whether your system is a member of a
domanin or not, it is ill advised to delete any such ID.

Only if those products created user IDs.
