strange issue with internet explorer

Hey.
Since a while I have a problem with internet explorer whenever I try
to save graphics. When I try to save a picture, I can only select bmp
at "save as type:", even when the picture is a jpg or gif file.
Does anyone know how to restore the original settings?
I should be able to select jpg as a filetype so I can see which jpg
files are already available in the desired location where I intend to
safe the graphic.

Clear the Temporary Internet Files. In IE>Tools>Internet Options>
Delete Files button. And check the box to Delete Offline content.
