Then 'TheMightyW' should definatly go for the SATA version with 1 or 2 sata hard drives.

The Gigabyte GA-7VT600 is not THAT much more - a tenner at a push and it has all the goodies AND a bios saviour chip. Personally i would still take a more fancy motherboard because although the Assrock may be very stable, i would put my money on a "better" motherboard giving an overall faster system.

tis just my opinion Flops.

And a very fair opinion it is.

I've only ever used 'quality' boards myself but if somebody is on a budget then obviously compromises will have to be made. All I'm saying is that for the price, the Asrock board mentioned will work well, albeit without some desired features.

yeah Flops, i see what you are saying but surely he can afford a better motherboard if he is willing to upgrade to the 64bit system.

im sure budget systems are not aimed at "hardcore gaming" people like mighty here.

i dunno.

just my opinion. havent heard much from mighty himself....

no, lol

The Asrock board will handle all current games if the right components are used with it. I'll grant you a board with more features, Nvidia chipset et al, will do the job better but, hey, ya know, ya pays yer money ya makes yer choice ;)

Good PC Upgrade

In late June or early July (2005 in U.S.) I'm getting a PC upgrade. I have been reading PC game magazines recently in the last few years and I know the Best Performance AND BUDGET upgrade. If you are a gamer, like me you will want a system like this (if you are not however; buy a cheap ($200-$700 or 158.78-555.69 EUROS), brand name system with a Pentum 4 Processor places like Dell):

Not: These prices DON'T ALWAYS INCLUDE SHIPPING or TAX (usually cheap, though)!! If items don't ship to Europe look on Eurpean Auction-related sites (should be at least near in price).

Processor (Really good; Best Bang for the Buck (Euro): AMD Athlon 3500+ Socket 939 64 Bit; Price(s): $266.95 or 211.93 EUROS, Website(s): Futurepowerpc.com.

DDR Memory: 1 GB DDR 400 (PC 3200) of OCZ, Crucial, or Kingston Original Memory (or Game Performance brand; little difference); Price(s): $113-$250 or 89.70-198.46 Euros; Website(s): MonarchPC.com, Shopzilla.com, Pricegrabber.com or their websites ( Example: Kingston.com).

Graphics Card: Budget (though Most Bang For The Buck or EURO): Geforce 6600 GT 128 MB G-DDR3; Price: $150.00 or 119.07 EUROS, ATi 9800 XT 128-256 MB DDR $129-300 or 102.41-158.78 EUROS; Website(s): Shopzilla.com, Zipzoomfly.com, ALMOST Highest End (3rd fastest card; not much slower and still VERY fast): Geforce 6800 GT; Price: $329 or 261.21 EUROS; Website(s): Zipzoomfly.com.

Fans: Up to 6; Buy at Local PC store for (Usually) NO more than $10 or 12.60 EUROS PER fan (120 mililmeter kinds may be more).

Power Supply: 2 Videocards need up to 500-550 Watts for GOOD performance; Price(s): $100-$200 or 79.37-158.74 EUROS: Website(s): Microcenter.com or some mentioned before; or 1 Videocard can take 350-420 Watts for Good Performance (unaware of current price, check websites suggested before or go to Local PC store, price is probably $50-$80 or 39.68-68.49 EUROS).

Motherboard: Highest End: ASUS A8-N SLi for 2 VIDEOCARDS (SLi enabled); Price(s): $164 or 130.16: EUROS; Website(s): Xpcgear.com Mid: Any Major brand K8-N NForce 4 series for 1 Videocard (unaware of current price, check websites suggested before).

Hard drive: Fastest Speed: 74 GB 10,000 RPM; Price (Nearly any Store): Around $120.00 or 95.27 EUROS Most Needed Space (Nearly any Store): : 120-160 GB; Price: Around $60-$100 or 47.63-79.39 EUROS.

This information should be very helpful and provide you a Good PC that lasts (exceptional performance or BETTER) for the next 4 years (when Bush gets out of the White House, YAY!!). Thanks for asking, I'll be there!!

The Athlon 64 CPU's are great for gaming, so that would definately be a step in the right direction, but also a new motherboard and graphics card are other major considerations (as per other member recomendations above) when building a gaming rig.
