ATX 350W POWER SUPPLY

ATX 350W Power supply sounds informative, but it's not.
Do you know the manufacturor - model number? Got a web link for use.

What are you planning to do with the system? Digital Video editing? Digital
photo editing? Cad/Cam? Games? Web Server? ...

What all will be going in the case? CD-RW, DVD-+-RW, Extra Hard drive, raid,
total memory ... ?

Are you thinking about over clocking?

Thanks for the reply

The main use of teh ssytem will be for Digital Video Editing and some games
maybe

It will have
80GB 7200 rpm hard drive
CD-RW
DVD-RW
512 DDR RAM

No OverClocking as of now...but is there a possibilitity to overclock?

So any recommendations on the parts?
does it sound like a good system overall?

Thanks

Probably stating the obvious, but you haven't listed a video card, you'll need
one. Look for a model with dual heads. There are different flavors of dual
head. If you're going to use a Flat Panel LCD as your monitor, you want one
with a DVI connector and a 9 pin VGA port with an included a VGA to S-Video
adapter cable. You'll need to spend at least $60 on this and it's probably
better to look in the $90 - $150 range.

You're not going to be happy with 512 MB of RAM while editing Video. If you
can't afford more than that now, get one 512 MB stick - not 2 256MB sticks.
Your motherboard accepts both DDR400 and DDR333 RAM, be sure you get DDR400,
it's faster. The motherboard will operate best with two matched sticks of DDR400.

Better digital video camera's use Firewire (IEEE 1394) to transfer video to
the computer. Somewhat pricer motherboards have this built-in, but you can add
a card later for about $30-$50.

It's cool to be able to look into the case, but if you have to work on it
yourself, you'll be much happier if you get a tool-less case.
Here is an example of such a case -
* http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=11-129-140&depa=0

* Click on the "more images(8)" link below the thumbnail picure.
* If you click on the 6th picture you can get detail specifications on the
* case's 350 WATT power supply.

I can't emphasize enough, 'Take a close look at the power supply.'
Please read this article. http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20021021/

The 80 GB hard drive either has 2MB of cache or 8MB of cache. It's well worth
the few extra dollars to get the 8MB cache version.

I'd go for one of the combi DVD writers that will handle both DVD-R(W)
and DVD+R(W) - then you are covered whichever way things go

512 MB RAM is plenty in general cases - in yours you should make sure
you would be in a position to increase it easily after seeing how things
go

r u absolutelt sure u want to go for a Intel Penium 4, i would have opted for an AMD Athlon and perhaps the 64-bit processor
