stop error when upgrading from win 2k pro to win xp pro

I recieved a stop error 0x0000007b 0xf7ac0640 0xc0000034
0x00000000 0x00000000 during the first boot after the
upgrade to win xp pro from win 2k pro. Any idea how I
may recover the system? I ran a CHKDSK /R and FIXBOOT
but still got the same error messaage after a reboot.
Please help.

I have one IDE MAXTOR 27 GB. It is set up as the primary
master and the first boot device.
