stop creating duplicate image files in word

How do you stop Word from creating duplicate 1k ghost images of files when
you close them

Word creates a variety of normally hidden temporary files and especially a
'lock' file in the working folder, which is probably what you are referring
to. You cannot prevent this, but they should be removed when you close the
document and/or Word (and Outlook). See
