STOP: c0000135 error after SP2 *UNinstall*.

K

Kim

I installed SP2 without a problem but couldn't stand the changes made.
The rather worthless firewall that any beginnger hacker could break
through simply wasn't worth it. I've got all the software I'd want to
protect my computer already. So I uninstalled SP2, rebooted, and get
the winsrv was not found error.
I'm not 100% sure but I think it might have to do with another install
that occured right after the SP2 was installed. I needed .net
framework to be able to use a trial version of autocad. When I
uninstalled SP2, I was given a warning that it might no longer work
(along with some other patch). Anyone have any recommendations on how
to solve this? As SP2 is already not on my system, the fixes for that
obviously don't pertain to me even though I still did try them.
Multiple searches have yeilded nothing as of yet. I assume I may have
to use the basics of the spuninst fix to get rid of .net but I can't
tell in system recovery what folder pertains to that. Aside from the
$ntservicepackuninstall$ the rest are $NTUninstall, a bunch of #s and
then the $.
I'd rather not fully reinstall the OS though I do have a 2nd partition
that will save the important files. But all of the programs I have
will be a pain to reinstall.

All you had to do is the following after installing SP2:

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Security Center
and click on: "Change the way Security Center alerts me".

You receive a "Stop: c0000135" and "winsrv was not found"
error message after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2

SP2 is a solid, secure release. It is a major "Critical Update"
for Windows XP and updates over 5 million lines of code,
enabling much stronger security, stability, and affords a tad better
performance benefit. SP2 was extensively tested on hundreds of
thousands of various computer configurations over a period of
many, many months. I would encourage you to install it at your
earliest convenience since it renders SP1 virtually obsolete.
