STOP 7B on reboot after install

I'm getting the BSOD after the first reboot during the install of Vista beta
2. I'm trying to install on a ThinkPad T60 (risky, I know!). I have the
internal SATA drive with XP on it, and I'm trying to install to an external
USB (IDE) drive. It sees the external drive just fine during the install, but
the BSOD STOP 7B appears after it installs everything.

I've tried installing the MOBO SATA driver (IASTOR.SYS from Intel) during
the install to see if that is what it needed, but that didn't seem to help.
I've tried all the F8 options during boot, including safe mode, disabling
driver signature checking, and turning on the boot log (which I could never
find, by the way).

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Installation on a usb drive is not supported. If your laptop has an
ExpressCard/34 slot you might be able to install to an external SATA drive
in a SATA enclosure using an ExpressCard/34 SATA card.

Thanks, Colin.

Do you know if external USB drives will be supported at Gold Release, or is
this not planned at all? (If not, do you know how I can provide feedback to
the product team that it might be a good idea to have the installer check for
an unsupported drive configuration *before* it spends 45 minutes to do the
install, only to have it BSOD?)

Thanks for your assistance,
